Every year there are few car launches that are hyped a lot and there’s a lot of buzz around them. Some cars live up to the hype while others turn out to be big bummers. And then there are a few like the 2021 Toyota Supra that receive a mixed bag of reaction and criticism from the audience.
When Toyota revived the legendary Supra moniker back in 2019, there was indeed a lot of excitement around it. However, enthusiasts were pissed off after they found out that Toyota had badge-engineered the BMW Z4 and relaunched it with the Supra nameplate.
Nonetheless, the Supra still was able to rake up good sales numbers, thanks to all the features and equipment that the car came loaded with. So, if you’re an original fan and kinda are bummed by the new Supra, we’ve listed 7 features of the 2021 Toyota Supra that would make you reconsider the new car
-
Gorgeous design
Well, there’s no second opinion to the fact that the new Supra is an absolutely gorgeous car. It has that long hood, along with the sculpted front bumper and the wrap-around headlights that just give it an aggressive face and an athletic stance. Then on the sides, it has multiple lines flowing across the body that again look fantastic.
Even if it’s a badge-engineered car, it looks way better than the Z4. It sits on a rather large set of forged billet aluminum wheels that look cool and unique. It also gets a grippy set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires that enhance the driving experience.

Punchy engine options
The Supra is offered with 2 engine options – a 2.0L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder, and a 3.0L turbocharged inline 6-cylinder unit.
The smaller 2.0L unit makes a healthy 255 horse and 295 lb-ft of torque. The Supra with this engine does 0-60 mph in just 5.0 seconds and covers the quarter-mile distance in 13.3 seconds.
The 3.0L unit is even quicker. With the 6 barrel unit, the Supra smokes the track by doing 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and hits the quarter-mile mark in just 12.3 seconds.

Slick shifting transmission
The Supra’s engines come mated to a slick-shifting ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. Now, we know a few of you crave a manual box with a car like this but mind you, the auto box is no less fun. You get pedal shifters with the car and you still shift the gears manually and rev the engine all the way to the red line to churn out maximum performance.
Otherwise, in the auto mode, the transmission is super responsive and shifts perfectly to meet all your torque and power demands. You do not ever feel out of breath and lacking power and the shifts are just very sharp and precise.
-
Driving modes
The driving modes in the Supra are not namesake and you do actually feel the difference when you shift between the modes. The car has 2 modes – Normal and Sports and the car’s character is tweaked as you change the modes.
The Normal mode is for your daily commute, on sedate roads, in bumper to bumper traffic. The responses and feedback in this mode, from the mechanicals of the car, are not all that aggressive. However, the car comes to life when you shift to Sports mode. In this mode, the exhaust sounds louder, the throttle reacts to inputs quicker and the gearbox shifts more aggressively.

Sports seats
The Supra comes equipped with tight, sporty bucket seats. The seats are placed low and you sit quite close to the ground with your feet stretched out as you’d sit in a supercar. The seats are heavily bolstered and they’re designed to hold you in place while you throw the car around turns at high speeds. The seats can also be trimmed with high-quality leather by paying extra if that’s what you care for and can also have multi-level heating and 14-way power adjustability by paying extra.

The car is equipped with pre-collision detection with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, hill-start assist, and a rearview camera with parking grid lines.
