On Saturday, the Delhi Police nabbed a 23-year-old Kolkata man for allegedly defrauding a person via social media by claiming to be selling him an Apple iPhone. The accused, Vishal Kumar Sekhsariya, is a Kolkata resident, according to the authorities. When authorities got a report about internet fraud, a man was selling Apple iPhones on Instagram.
The complainant alleged that a fake Instagram account was set up to sell iPhones for less than market value and that the accused cheated the victim of Rs 48,000 by using the digital payment method.
The complainant’s bank account statement, the details of the Instagram account, and the email addresses used to verify it was all retrieved during the investigation, according to a senior police official.
According to the officer, authorities received the mobile phone numbers and IP addresses used to send the e-mails.
Based on technological evidence, a police squad focused on Sekhsariya, the proprietor of the Instagram account. On Wednesday, a raid was undertaken in collaboration with local police, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Sanjay Kumar Sain, and the perpetrator was apprehended in his Kolkata apartment.
The suspect was transferred to Delhi and interrogated. He claimed to be a final-year college student who works as part of a television program event management team, according to the DCP.
Under the pretense of selling iPhones, the accused and one of his buddies defrauded others. The accused’s companion is being sought by police, and one iPhone 12 was recovered in his hands, according to police.
