The Consumer Electronic Show (CES), which has happened every year since 1967, just opened its doors in the United States. From January 5 to 8, some of the biggest names in consumer electronics, like Samsung, Nvidia, Intel, LG, and Sony, will make announcements at the most important fair for new tech in consumer electronics.
So, right after the start of the technology summit in Las Vegas, Sony set the bar high by announcing and showing off AFEELA, a new electric car that was made in partnership with Honda and won’t be sold in North America until 2026.
Welcome to the Future of Sony Honda Mobility
The Vision-S concept car comes out in 2020, and the Vision-S 02 SUV comes out in January 2022. In early 2023, Sony Honda Mobility’s motoring adventure is in full swing. This first model, which isn’t expected to change much before production starts, looks a lot like Vision-S. It has a two-tone color scheme, with gray on the bottom and black on top.

Sony’s AFEELA is 4.89 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, and 1.46 meters tall. It has 21-inch wheels and headlights and taillights that are all in one line. The car has 45 cameras inside and outside to make sure it is as safe as possible. At the moment, they are set up for level 2 of self-driving, but the Japanese brand wants to get them to level 3 by the time orders start in 2025.
Sony Honda Mobility hasn’t said much about the technical details of its future electric car, but its CEO Yasuhide Mizuno has said that the user experience is at the heart of the project: “AFEELA expresses an interactive relationship in which people “feel” mobility as an intelligent entity, and mobility perceives people and society with the help of network computing and sensing technologies.” To do this, several screens have been built into the car, most of which are white for this first-year model.
The entire dashboard of the AFEELA is made up of a screen that shows driving and entertainment information in the middle and two other screens that show images of the mirrors on each end. Backseat passengers will also be able to watch movies or play games on screens. The Unreal Engine 5 engine from Epic Games, which has joined the project, will also work with everything.
