Apple Cancels Plans to Launch Affordable Pencil: Report

Apple was purportedly working on a low-cost pencil called Marker for its users. However, the Cupertino-based tech company has apparently halted all plans to release the Apple pencil, despite purportedly preparing for a September 2023 launch at the iPhone maker’s biggest annual event. The proposed Apple pencil might have included a USB Type-C charging port as well as a lightning connection. The corporation has not yet made any announcements regarding such a product.

According to a post on the Chinese website Weibo that was first seen, Apple was working on releasing a low-cost Apple Pencil that would be compatible with iPhones and charge via a USB type-C port. Meanwhile, the current Apple Pencil is charged via a lightning wire, although the company’s low-cost iPad Wi-Fi now utilizes a USB type-C port, necessitating an extra $9 (approximately Rs. 750) to purchase an additional dongle.

Unfortunately, Apple has canceled all plans to introduce the device, which was supposed to be released next year. Apple’s proposed $50 (approximately Rs. 4,100) version of the Apple Pencil was dubbed Marker, according to the report. According to the study, the low-cost Apple Pencil could have saved money by omitting capabilities like pressure-sensing technology and an in-built battery. The iPhone maker chose to create a chip that would power the stylus via the linked screen, similar to the technology found in Samsung’s S-Pen devices.

However, Apple has yet to make any formal pronouncements concerning the debut or cancellation of the inexpensive Apple Pencil, so we may have to wait until the September event next year to find out whether these rumors are real or not.

Apple was recently seen applying for a reworked patent that would allow an Apple Pencil to be positioned above the MacBook keyboard. The claims include the ability to magnetically retain or secure the Pencil when placed in the storage compartment, as well as the ability to use the pencil as a function key while housed in the chassis. The patent, which Apple originally sought for last year, envisions the Pencil as a substitute for the function keys row.

According to Patently Apple, the Cupertino, California-based corporation may have added 20 additional patent claims relating to the stylus. The input tool might be housed in a recess of the keyboard enclosure or the chassis, according to the patent.
