If I had to pick the most vexing WhatsApp feature, it would have to be the Last Seen status. However, the messaging platform was wise enough to include certain privacy features, allowing users to control who may view their Last Seen. However, the privacy options were limited, with only three options available: Everyone, My Contacts, and Nobody. For all these years, nobody’s selection for Last seen status was the default for me. However, this could change in the near future. WhatsApp is getting ready to provide the most important privacy feature we all demand.
WhatsApp is rolling out an upgrade to beta users that includes a new privacy option and the ability to hide your Last Seen status from specified contacts. As a result, you’ll soon be able to add your coworkers, boss, and most obnoxious relatives to that list on WhatsApp. To cut a long tale short, you’re immune from comments like “I noticed you were on WhatsApp.”
While I’m not a fan of WhatsApp’s Last Seen Status, I think it’s a great method for your friends and family to keep an eye on the messaging platform to know when you were last using it. This is especially crucial when you can’t respond to someone but they can see that you haven’t used WhatsApp in a while. It simply makes it easier to explain why you weren’t using the software.
However, WhatsApp might have provided another option, “Share Last seen with,” that would have been more popular than “My contacts except…”
You’ll still have to softly block most people in your contact list if you use the current testing option. While the “Share Last Seen with” feature may have allowed you to add certain contacts to see when you’re online, it didn’t. I’m hoping this reaches someone on WhatsApp.
So, what exactly is WhatsApp’s new Last Seen feature?
Last seen privacy setting on WhatsApp
Because the functionality is still in beta, WhatsApp is only making it available to beta users. Users will be able to hide their Last seen status from certain contacts once the feature is pushed out.
This will be a significant departure from WhatsApp’s present range of possibilities. The most crucial aspect is the level of control that consumers will have. Consider how you wouldn’t want a random neighbor stalking you on a chat service.
The new Last seen privacy setting is trickling out to beta users, according to WABetainfo, who maintains track of new WhatsApp upgrades in its newest report. It’s also worth noting that WhatsApp wants to introduce “My contacts except…” features for the Profile photo and About choices.
After the last beta update, the new privacy setting isn’t available for the Profile photo and About WhatsApp options, which implies the wait could be lengthier.
Before you choose any Last Seen option, keep in mind that if you don’t share your Last Seen, you won’t be able to see other people’s. However, for the most part, this should not be an issue.
