Google has filed a writ against the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for allegedly leaking a secret report about the company’s probe. Google stated in a statement that it wants to stop CCI’s investigative arm from disclosing confidential information in the future.
Google is challenging the violation of trust, which jeopardizes Google’s capacity to defend itself and hurts Google and its partners. “This sensitive report has not yet been received or reviewed by Google,” according to the company.
“Google filed a writ suit in the Delhi High Court seeking remedies in this situation, specifically appealing against the breach of confidence that harmed Google and its partners,” the company stated.
After various reports this week claimed that CCI’s investigation arm, the Director-General (DG), found that Google is engaging in unfair commercial practices in connection to Android, Google has moved to the High Court.
“We are quite concerned that while in the hands of the CCI, the Director General’s Report, which contains our confidential material in an ongoing case, was released to the public. Any government inquiry must protect sensitive information, and we are exercising our legal right to seek remedies and prevent additional unlawful disclosures “In a statement, a Google spokeswoman stated.
The company cooperated fully and preserved confidentiality throughout the investigation, according to the spokeswoman. “We hope and demand the same level of secrecy from the institutions with which we interact,” the statement continued.
Furthermore, Google stated that DG’s conclusions “do not reflect the CCI’s final determination,” and that the investigation report submission is merely a procedural step. “Google has yet to study the DG’s conclusions, let alone offer its defense of any claims,” the statement added.
