With the launch of Pixel 8, Google has introduced a new eSIM migration tool to simplify transferring eSIM profiles between devices. This aims to boost eSIM adoption after Apple eliminated physical SIM card slots starting with the iPhone 14.
On first boot, Pixel 8 prompts users to migrate their existing eSIM from an old Pixel phone to the new one. Previously this required manually deactivating and reactivating eSIMs.

Google isn’t first in enabling eSIM migration on Android – Samsung released a similar tool in OneUI 5.1 earlier. It also expanded eSIM transfers between newer Galaxy devices and carriers.
Pixel and Galaxy moves show Android makers are ramping up eSIM capabilities as Apple’s shift accelerates the transition away from physical SIM cards.
