While the Apple iPhone 14 series is still months away from release, speculation about the iPhone 15 series has already begun. Apple is evaluating 5x telephoto lens prototypes and component samples for the iPhone 15 Pro. In May 2022, a final choice on the manufacturer will be made.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the information on the iPhone 15 Pro comes from analyst Jeff Pu. Apple has yet to reveal details on its future iPhone 14 series, which is set to arrive later this year as a successor to the iPhone 13 series.
The components will Apple included in the “high-end variants of the 2023 iPhone series,” which should mean the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, once they have been certified. Lante Optics is expected to be the lens’s manufacturer, and 100 million pieces are expected to be produced exclusively for Apple.
Periscope lenses aren’t exactly new, and they’re currently available on a few Android phones. They make it possible to arrange the optical assembly of longer telephoto cameras horizontally, allowing them to fit inside modern slim phones.
While Android phones have been using the technology for several years, Apple has a history of waiting until a feature is perfected before releasing it.
